About Victor Valdez
Victor was born in Belize but grew up knowing Belize and Guatemala as his home. He received his BSc (Honours) and MSc in Environmental Science at Memorial University of Newfoundland. The former focused on the regeneration constraints of Eastern White Pine seedlings while the latter looked at the expression levels of nitrogen cycle genes during the freezing and thawing of agricultural soils in the winter. It was during his MSc where Victor was most interested in the molecular world. Now he intends to study the relationships between gene expression with enzymatic and temperature kinetics, and their subsequent control over the production of nitrogen oxides in the non-growing season. Victor is also an avid hiker and canoeist, and enjoys camping and travelling.
