About Reanna Shaftoe

Growing up in rural southern Ontario, Reanna has always been interested in agriculture and natural spaces. She attended the University of Guelph, completing a Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Science with a major in Environmental Economics and Policy. This degree tied together her twin interests in the environment and the economic systems that surround human management of it. She is currently completing her master’s degree at Guelph in Food and Agricultural Resource Economics, focusing on farmer perceptions around key aspects of nitrogen fertilizer use. She hopes her research will help to shed light on why farmers are reluctant to use lower fertilizer rates and that this work will facilitate change towards lower nitrous oxide emissions from crop production.

She enjoys almost any activity involving the outdoors, including hiking and camping. She loves learning about animals of all kinds, and is especially fond of ants.
